Two farm workers were cutting trees on a farm outside New Hangover near Pietermaritzburg, when a freak accident happened, killing one of the workers this morning.
ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg rushed to the scene and were shown to where the man was lying. The man believed to be 34 yrs of age was unresponsive. Unfortunately the man had suffered serious head injuries and had succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. The other worker was uninjured in the accident.
It is believed that the two workers were cutting down trees, when one of the trees fell in the wrong direction. The man who was wearing his correct protective wear was then struck on the head by the tree. The impact may have killed the man instantly.
The local authorities from New Hangover were on the scene and would investigate the incident further.
