Hunter hunted as Leopard attacks hunters in Polokwane

A serious incident has occurred this morning at an unknown game farm in Polokwane. The details surrounding the incident are not yet clear, but a husband and wife guiding pair had been attacked and injured by a leopard.

A foreign trophy game hunter, described as being a client, had allegedly shot and injured a leopard late on Saturday afternoon. A party of people then set out to track the injured animal. Included in the party were the guides, the married South-African couple, the foreign trophy hunter and various other individuals.

Then without warning at 09:00 this morning the tides changed for the tracking party as the injured Leopard stalked and attacked the hunters. The leopard had allegedly darted for the foreign client, when the male guide, believed to be aged in his mid 30’s, stepped in between the hunter and the beast.

The leopard then mauled the male guide as the man sustained various injuries in the attack. Somehow the man’s wife also sustained some injuries to her arm in the form of multiple lacerations. After the attack the party boarded a helicopter to airlift the injured individuals to the Polokwane provincial hospital.

Once at the hospital the badly injured male was treated by ER24 paramedics. The man had sustained deep wounds to his left shoulder and arm as well as deep punctures to his abdominal area. Paramedics then rapidly transported the couple to Mediclinic Limpopo for further medical attention.
