Kite surfer injured after being swept from sea at Milnerton

[Milnerton 30 August 2011 17:45]

A 16 year old kite surfer has sustained multiple injuries after allegedly being swept from the sea, across the beach and into the beach parking lot.

The young kite surfer was unable to control his kiteboard in the strong winds on the overcast evening. Shortly before it began to rain, the winds picked up in the area and he was swept from the sea. Luckily, he was swept towards the beach and not further out to sea.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene the teen was being attended to by a basic life support paramedic who had assessed his wounds. The ambulance crew immediately took over his treatment attending to his multiple scrapes and abrasions, deep cuts on his head and face as well as possible broken coccyx. He was in a substantial amount of pain and the Advanced Life Support Paramedic provided him with some medication.

He was further stabilised in the ambulance and was transported to Mediclinic Milnerton for further treatment.
