Two woman have been left with severe injuries after a head on collision at the intersection of Blackford and Bowling Avenue in Gallo Manor this afternoon.
We believed that one of the two vehicles involved crossed the intersection at the wrong time which was the cause of the accident; Both vehicle were severely damaged on their front ends, and it appears that the vehicles spun out after the initial impact which caused the vehicles then to crash into one another again, leading to further damage to their boot areas.
Two woman were found still inside the gold Toyota Corolla, the driver appearing to be in her 30’s and the front passenger in her early 50’s were found almost seated on top of one another, with serious injuries. They were mechanically entrapped in the front compartment of the vehicle as the front drivers side door was also extensively damaged. The Fire and Rescue workers needed to use the Jaws of Life to cut away at the vehicle in order to get both of the woman out. They were both stabilised inside the car while Fire and Rescue workers were busy. Approximately 40 minutes later they were freed and loaded into the waiting ambulances for transportation to Sunninghill hospital for further care.
The woman sitting in the back of the car decided she would climb out of the car by herself, and after assessment by paramedics she refused further treatment and chose private transportation from the scene. The driver of the VW Golf was found walking around at the scene, complaining of slight pain to his knee. He too did not want to go to hospital with the ambulance and was more concerned about the two woman who were injured.
Traffic was brought to a standstill while rescue workers were busy at the scene.
