A 35 year old woman who was taking part in an Equestrian Show Jumping contest in Shongweni, has been left with critical injuries after falling from her horse during the show.

According to witnesses, the horse may have lost its footing after coming over one of the jumps, causing the woman to slip from the saddle. Her foot allegedly did not immediately come loose from the stirrup and the horse may have kicked her while trying to stay standing.

As paramedics arrived at the scene they were immediately taken to where the woman lay. She was in a critical condition and the Advanced Life Support paramedic had to step in to provide life saving treatment. The woman was stabilised and transported to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further treatment.
