A man has been killed and another 3 injured in an accident on Randfontein Road just past the intersection with Corlett Road in Roodepoort this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the Toyota Corolla had been extensively damaged after the impact with the truck that was carrying sand at the time. It is not clear as to what caused the accident, but the truck was allegedly coming over the blind rise after which it crashed into the Toyota.
The roof of the car was almost completely ripped off in the accident, and sadly the driver of the vehicle had already succumbed to his injuries that he had sustained prior to paramedics arriving at the scene. There was nothing further that could be done for him and he was declared dead.
The man’s three work colleagues were also in the car at the time of the accident. They had suffered multiple and serious injuries including broken bones, facial injuries and internal injuries. They needed to be stabilised at the scene before they were taken to local hospitals in the surrounding area.
The driver of the truck was found walking around on the scene and he appeared to have not sustained any physical injuries in the accident.
The traffic remains completely congested in the area as officials are still busy on the scene.
