Workers at an informal rubbish dump near the informal settlement, J.B Mafora made a shocking discovery earlier this afternoon. The workers stumbled upon a baby boy, allegedly born this morning and then abandoned by his mother.
The workers immediately activated the emergency medical services to the scene. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene the found the baby boy with its umbilical cord still attached to the placenta. The baby was hypothermic and struggled to breath.
Paramedics treated and stabilised the baby at the scene before transporting him to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for further medical care. Local law enforcement authorities who attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
