10 year old struck by bakkie while walking to school in Gordons Bay

A 10 year old boy has sustained severe injuries this morning after being struck by a bakkie on his way to school.

The 10 year old boy was walking from home, close to where his school is in Gordons Bay, when he needed to cross a road. The exact events are unclear, but the boy had allegedly stepped in front of a security bakkie and was struck at speed.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the boy, dressed in school uniform lying in the middle of the road, surrounded by concerned bystanders. The child was in severe pain. The boy had sustained a severe injury to his left leg in the form of multiple fractures.

The patient was then treated and stabilised at the scene before being transported to Mediclinic Vergelegen for further medical care. Local law enforcement authorities who were at the scene will be investigating the incident further.
