Head On Collision Leaves One Dead


[POTCHEFSTROOOM – 04 OCTOBER 2011 AT 13H30]

On the R501 between Potchefstroom and Carltonville, a person has been killed; another person is in a critical condition and four people with minor injuries after two vehicles had a head on collision this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found both vehicles, a delivery vehicle and a bakkie with extensive damage to both. In the delivery vehicle there were three people in the front and two found in the back. The front passenger a female, closest to the door had suffered extensive traumatic injuries. Unfortunately she had succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. The middle passenger believed to be in her 60’s was in a critical condition. The patient had suffered multiple injuries and needed Advanced Life Support, while they stabilised her, ER24 paramedics had to use rescue equipment to free her from the wreckage. The driver of the delivery vehicle and the two passengers that were in the back had suffered minor injuries.

All the patients were transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for further medical care. The driver of the bakkie had suffered minor injuries but would seek further medical care later if required.

The cause of the accident was unclear but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
