According to motorists who witnessed the accident, the cause of the head on collision between a Toyota Corolla and Mercedes hatchback may have been due to the woman who was driving the Toyota suffering a serious medical condition prior to the collision.
The Toyota and Mercedes smashed into each other head on, after which the Mercedes left the road, flipped over and landed on its roof down a small embankment at the side of Inanda Road. The father, his 2 children and their grandmother were in the vehicle at the time, and they had managed to climb from the car themselves. Fortunately they had not suffered any serious injuries, but the 2 year old girl and her 4 year old brother were extremely shaken. They were consoled and all 4 patients were taken to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further care.
The woman in her early 70’s who was driving the Toyota sadly did not survive her injuries. It is not clear at this stage whether her death was as a result of a prior medical condition or due to the impact of the collision.
The police who attended the scene will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
