[Shongweni – 09 November 2011 At 16h45]
Three elderly people, a man and two women aged between 64 and 73 have lost there lives this afternoon on Nkantolo Road near the Shongweni Dam after the bakkie they were in left the road and crashed firmly into a tree.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the bakkie wedged into the tree. All three occupants were severely entrapped. Unfortunately due to there fatal traumatic injuries they were declared deceased on the scene.
Gillets Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment to extricate them from the vehicle. Community members were in shock over the tragic death of the three people who were well known in the area.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
