Woman and baby injured in accident

[Bloemfontein 15 November 2011 08:00]

A woman and her 9 month old baby have been left with various injuries after an accident at the corners of Stalz and Holden in Bloemfontein.

It appears that a bakkie collided into the side of the woman’s Hyundai 1 ton bakkie, which forced it to further crash into a tree. All of the impact from the initial collision as well as from the impact with the tree was on the drivers side of the vehicle, which left the woman trapped in the wreckage.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the family of 3 in the other bakkie weren’t physically injured and a bystander was holding the 9 month old baby who was in the Hyundai. The baby’s mother was still in the vehicle and the Fire and Rescue workers needed to used their specialised equipment to remove her.

She was treated for various injuries including possible broken bones, and was then transported along with her baby, who was in a stable condition, to the Life Rosepark Hospital where they were receive further care.

The police will need to perform their necessary investigations into determining the exact cause of the collision.
