Austrian Tourist rescued by stranger at Plettenberg Bay

An Austrian tourist was rescued by an unknown man near Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday, said the National Sea Rescue Institute.

“At 13h52, NSRI Plettenberg Bay volunteer duty sea rescue crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at The Island at Robberg Nature Reserve,” said spokesperson Craig Lambinon.

Seventy-year-old Hildegard Weisseneder was reportedly hiking with her husband and daughter when, while crossing a channel, she ran into difficulties in the water.

Lambinon said an unknown bystander hiking on the trail apparently rescued her from the water and left before rescue services arrived.

Weisseneder showed signs of near-drowning. She was transferred to a local hospital after receiving treatment at the scene and was in a stable condition. – Sapa
