Grasmere Toll Plaza

A Mazda hatchback has rolled off the N1 highway in the direction of Johannesburg near the Grasmere Toll Plaza leaving 2 dead and another 3 with various injuries.
The Mazda was the only vehicle involved in the accident, and it is not clear as of yet as to what caused the driver to lose control of the car. The car rolled approximately 200 meters off the road and into the field, coming to rest on its roof.
The 5 occupants were found lying spread across the field near the wreckage. 2 woman, one in her late 30’s and the other in her late 40’s, had suffered fatal injuries and they were declared dead at the scene. The man that was driving the vehicle was in need of treatment for moderate injuries while the other two occupants, a man and women, had suffered severe head injuries as well as multiple broken bones and were in a critical condition. All 3 patients were taken per ambulance to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for further care.
The police investigation unit is currently on the scene to gather information into what caused the fatal accident.
