2 people have died and 7 other sustained various injuries following a serious head-on collision, on the R57 near Kragbron.
The cause of the collision s unknown, but a Toyota Camery had allegedly lost control before colliding head-on with a bakkie.
When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that the 2 occupants in the front of the Camery had sustained fatal injuries. Both were unfortunately later declared dead at the scene. There were 3 passengers in the rear of the vehicle. A 19 year old girl, her 9 year old brother and their aunt.
The 19 year old girl was entrapped in the vehicle and Fire and Rescue needed to use specialised hydraulic rescue equipment to cut the vehicle in order to free her. She was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital by another ambulance service. Her 9 year old brother sustained suspected injuries to his head, chest and hips and was treated by paramedics before being transported to hospital.
The aunt and a single male occupant in the bakkie sustained minor injuries in the form of multiple scrapes and bruises. Another 3 occupants in the bakkie had left the scene prior to the arrival of paramedics.
Local law enforcement officials who attended the scene will be in investigating the incident further.
