Petrusburg 28 December 2011 16:30]
Two men have been killed and a woman has been critically injured after a bakkie collided head on with a Hyundai hatchback on the N8 approximately 10 kilometers from Petrusburg this afternoon.
The cause of the collision is not clear, but paramedics arrived to find that a man had already succumbed to his injuries inside the Hyundai, while the second man had been found with fatal injuries lying on the ground outside the vehicles. There was nothing further that paramedics could do for the two mean and they we’re declared deceased. Fire and Rescue workers would need to use the Jaws of Life to cut the body of the man out of the Hyundai as there was significant damage to the car.
The woman also appears to have been flung out of the vehicle after the impact, and she was found lying in the road next to the bakkie. The Advanced Life Support paramedic immediately took over her treatment and placed her on life support equipment while the Red Cross Medicopter was called in from Bloemfontein. The woman was in a critical condition having sustained multiple injuries and she was airlifted to Pelonomi Provincial Hospital.
It is not clear as to who had been driving the bakkie at the time of the accident.
Police officials who attended the scene will investigate.
