What started off as a recreational swim in a pond for three girls from the community of Pacaltsdorp has ended in tragedy.
The three girls, aged between 10 and 12, had entered the pond to cool off. Two of the girls later told rescue workers that they felt as if they were becoming stuck in the muddy bottom. They then decided to leave the pond, but had lost sight of their one friend.
The girls then ran to their parents to inform them of what had happened. Police divers responded to the scene and later removed the body of a 12 year old girl from the pond. She was later declared dead at the scene.
With summer still upon us, ER24 would like to remind all individuals going to rivers, dam’s, beaches and any other bodies of water to be extra careful and take care when entering the water.
