A tragic accident in Hartenbos in the Southern Cape happened at the corners of Louie Fourie and Kaap de Goede roads.
Police are currently investigating the actual details of the accident, but it appears that it was a severe side impact collision between a Ford Focus and an Opel Kadett.
A father and his three young daughters aged between seven and eleven, were traveling in the Opel at the time of the accident. The three girls were flung from the vehicle during the impact and sadly one of the younger girls (7) and the 11 year old died at the scene due to extensive traumatic injuries. Paramedics quickly assessed and loaded the other extensively injured younger girl and her father into the ambulance to be taken to hospital for further medical care and treated them for their injuries en route.
While on their way to hospital, the other little girl’s condition deteriorated and resuscitation efforts were started. Despite all efforts by the paramedics, the third little girl also died due to her extensive injuries. The girls’ father had suffered serious injuries and was handed over to medical staff in a stable condition.
The driver of the Ford Focus sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
