Paramedics from the ER24 George base were driving along the N2 near the Klein Brak River when they noticed a commotion and a few people standing around the edge of the water looking panicked. They went to investigate and were confronted with a serious emergency.
It appeared that a man and a woman had been travelling on a light aircraft, possibly a microlight, when they came into difficulty and the craft went down. They both landed in the water along with the light aircraft. The paramedics quickly assisted in pulling them out and assessment revealed that the woman, appearing to be in her late 20’s had suffered serious injuries. She was hardly conscious and they initiated life saving treatment on her.
The man in his late 40’s had suffered moderate injuries and he was in a stable condition. He too was pulled from the river bank and was given the appropriate treatment on scene.
The woman was taken to the provincial hospital in Mossel Bay for further care. The Department of Health: Provincial Government Emergency Medical Services treated and then transported the injured man to hospital.
