Where can I find the safety requirements for small vehicles at mining sites?

Question:

Could you please confirm whether you would be able to assist with the requirements for a small vehicle (Toyota Hilux) entering mine premises, i.e. what type of equipment is required as well as placement?

Your assistance in this regard would be appreciated.

Answer:

The requirements/standard for a LDV ( Light Driving Vehicle ) is set by the Owner of the mine.

It is different for every owner. For example, Assmang’s LDV standard differs from that of AngloAmerican. Although the lights and flags are usually standard to all mining operations, the height of the flag, type and color of the light and even the position of these items on the vehicle may differ. Specific types of vehicles, reflective tape, equipment identifying labels and roll-over protection may also be required as set in the standard. The type of safety equipment fitted to the vehicle can also be influenced by which part of the mine it operates in.

The best course of action would be to contact the clients liaison to your company, the clients Safety Department or SHEQ Systems Administrator and request the specific standard for the mine.
