Eighteen hurt in Bloemfontein taxi smash

Eighteen people were injured, several of whom seriously, when a cash-in-transit vehicle collided with a minibus taxi on Church Street in Bloemfontein this morning.

The cause of the accident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that the minibus taxi turned across the path of the CIT armoured vehicle. The two collided and skidded to a halt in the carriageway.

Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the injured commuters had spilled from the wreckage of the minibus. The guards had also alighted from their vehicle.

All were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were transported by ambulance to both state and private medical facilities for further medical treatment.
