[PIETERMARITZBURG – 13 MARCH 2012 AT 17H45]

A collision on the N3 Durban bound about 100m from the Camperdown on ramp involving a bakkie and a light motor vehicle has left a passenger from the light motor vehicle with moderate injuries this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle in the middle of the freeway on its roof. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were already out of the vehicle and were found seated on the side of the road. The driver had sustained minor cuts. The passenger had sustained suspected neck and back injuries and cuts to her arm. The patient was placed on a specialised board and stabilised further by means of Advanced Life Support intervention. Both driver and passenger were taken to Hillcrest Private Hospital for further medical care. The driver of the bakkie was unhurt.

It is unclear how the accident occurred but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further. Traffic on the N3 was severely affected and was down to one lane due to the accident.
