A fatal accident on the N2 in Prospecton at the Joiner road exit has left three deceased and another seven people with extensive injuries.
The cause of the accident is not known, but the Toyota Venture was the only vehicle involved. It is allegedly that the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn, where it came to rest on the embankment. Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the patients strewn across the highway, having been ejected as the vehicle rolled.
They quickly assessed the 10 occupants of the vehicle, finding that three had already succumbed to their injures and they had died at the scene. The deceased was a woman and two children, aged eight and five years old. The remaining seven people had suffered multiple moderate to critical injuries and required immediate treatment. One patient was airlifted to hospital from the scene due to the extensive nature of their injuries to King Edward Hospital.
The daughter of the deceased and also involved in the accident, aged four, was taken to hospital by paramedics with a police escort as she did not yet know the fate of her mother.
The highway was closed while Emergency Personnel were at the scene and traffic remains congested in the area.
