Boy survives near drowning at Victoria Bay

Victoria Bay

[Victoria Bay 22 March 16:30]

A 15 year old boy is lucky to have survived a near drowning incident in Victoria Bay, Southern Cape, this afternoon.

Paramedics were told by the teenagers friends that they had gone for a swim at the beach, when he suddenly was washed from his Boogie Board by what appeared to have been a strong current. Luckily, a nearby resident had witnessed the incident and he immediately jumped into the water to rescue the boy. He pulled the teenager onto nearby rocks and alerted the Emergency Services.

ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and assessed the teen. He was fortunately fully conscious and alert, but was very cold and had swallowed a large amount of sea water. Paramedics treated him on scene and quickly took him to the George Provincial Hospital for further care.

The young man was luckily saved by a brave bystander, without which the outcome of the boys’ outing could have been a lot worse.
