Filmmaker and conservationist John Varty recovering after tiger attack

Filmmaker and conservationist John Varty is recovering in hospital in Bloemfontein after being attacked by one of his tigers.
Varty was filming his animals on his Free State farm when one of the big cats attacked him. His brother Dave says the family is relieved the injuries are not as serious as initially thought.
“He came out of theatre at five this morning and is now recovering well.”
Varty established Tiger Canyons near the town of Philippolis in the Karoo. His aim was to experiment with creating a free-range, self-sustaining tiger population outside Asia.
