A 13-year-old Greytown schoolboy has died after collapsing during a rugby match, paramedics said on Wednesday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the under-14 rugby player died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The boy was rushed to Pietermaritzburg’s Grey’s Hospital at around 17:00 on Tuesday after he collapsed during a game in Pietermaritzburg.
Botha said it was not clear what injuries the boy had sustained as he collapsed while standing next to a scrum.
“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found the first aiders doing CPR on the patient. The medics immediately started with advanced life support resuscitation and managed to regain the heartbeat.”
The Witness reported that the boy was a pupil at Greytown High School, which was playing an away game at Voortrekker High School.
