[DURBAN, KZN, 08 MAY 2012 AT 13H00]
A collision on the N3 north bound just the Spine Road off ramp to the Pavilion involving three trucks and a light motor vehicle, causing the complete closure to the freeway has left two people with serious injuries this afternoon.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found two trucks across the freeway with a light motor vehicle just a few meters up the road with extensive damage to it. A driver and passenger of one of the trucks were entrapped as it was up against the Armco barrier. The Jaws of Life and other hydraulic equipment were used to extricate the patients from the truck. Both patients were treated for suspected neck and back injuries and transported to a hospital in Durban for further medical care.
The exact cause of the accident is yet unknown but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
