Worker injured in forklift accident in Wartburg

[WARTBURG, KZN 17 May 2012 09:30]

A worker sustained serious injuries this morning following a forklift accident at a steel warehouse in Wartburg.

The cause of the incident is unclear at this stage but the worker was driving the forklift when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and fell out from behind the steering wheel. The forklift then proceeded to roll over the worker before coming to a standstill on top of him. Concerned coworkers rushed to the injured workers aid. It took approximately 15 workers to lift the vehicle off the injured man.

When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they found the man still on the floor and in severe pain. The man received Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene for suspected back and neck injuries, an injury to his left shoulder and a broken right leg.

The man was later transported to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg for further medical attention. The Incident will be investigated by the appropriate authority.
