A young girl tragically lost her life yesterday when a Hyundai 1 tonner allegedly drove through a red light at the intersection of Christian De Wet and Paul Kruger road at approximately 15:50 yesterday afternoon.
The 1 Tonner collided with a red VW Citi Golf on the passenger side critically injuring the young child, aged 10, who was seated in the passenger seat in the VW.
An Emer-G-Med Ambulance crew was first on scene. When they arrived the young girl was not breathing and they immediately began CPR. The Matrix Road Safety Association vehicle arrived shortly afterwards and the onboard medic assisted fellow crew members with their attempts to save the young girl. With full advance life support resuscitation the Emer-G-Med paramedics were able to restore a pulse.
The patient was then packaged and rushed off to the nearest hospital for further stabilization. Unfortunately the young girl’s injuries were far too severe and she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Terence Teixeira from Matrix Road Safety Association confirmed that there were no other serious casualties on the scene.
