[Lenasia, GP 30 May 2012 10:30]
A 28 year old man has suffered extensive injuries after he is believed to have fallen off the overhead bridge onto the N12 in Lenasia. The man was working at the construction site on the N12 N1 split when he for some reason fell from the approximately eight meter high bridge, landing almost on the N12 highway.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately started treating the injured man. It appeared that he had suffered a head injury as well as back injury and possible broken arm. While they treated him on scene, they ER24 Discovery Medicopter was activated to assist with the man’s transport to hospital. After such a fall paramedics were surprised to find that he was alert and talking to them, just in a severe amount of pain.
The Medicopter airlifted the young man to the Union Hospital in Alberton where he will undergo further assessment and the appropriate treatment.
Traffic in the direction of Potchefstroom was brought to a standstill in order for the Medicopter to land on scene. The scene has since been cleared.
