A taxi appears to have experienced some form of mechanical failure while traveling down the hill on 9th street in Greymont, Johannesburg causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and it crashed head on into a roadside barrier.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found one woman lying in front of the taxi. She appeared to have been ejected out of the taxi through the front wind shield and she had sustained multiple broken bones. Another three patients had suffered various broken bones while a further seven people had suffered moderate injuries including suspected back and neck injuries as well as multiple scrapes and bruises.
All nine patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to either Helen Joseph hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital or Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
There had been no other vehicles involved in the accident.
