Isuzu bakkie overturns at speed on highway

This morning (27 June) at approximately 09:00 an Isuzu double cab bakkie was traveling on the N12 near the Rondebult offramp in the Eastrand. The driver allegedly swerved to avoid another vehicle, lost control and the Isuzu rolled coming to a stop on the side of the highway. No other vehicles were involved.

Terence Teixeira from the Matrix Road Safety Association reports that Emer-G-Med was first on the scene. “The medics treated and stabilised the patient who had fortunately only sustained moderate injuries. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital,” he says.

Teixeira says highway accidents are often the result of drivers speeding. “Unfortunately many people do not view obeying the speed limits as an important way to avoid crashes. Not many people are aware that speeding is regarded as a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes. Drivers need to understand that speed reduces their ability to steer safely around curves or objects on the road, increases the likelihood of crashing and increases the severity of a crash once it occurs,” he says.

“While this may sound obvious, it’s amazing how many drivers choose to ignore these facts and continue breaking speed limits. The Matrix Road Safety Association urges drivers to slow down and be more aware of speed limits when travelling,” Teixeira concludes.
