Five people sustained various injuries this afternoon following a head-on collision between two Bakkies on the old main road in Hammarsdale.
The events leading up to the collision is unclear, but when ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the collision was severe as both vehicles had sustained substantial damage. The one bakkie, a Corsa bakkie, had a male driver believed to be aged 18 and three female passengers. The mother was seated in the front passenger seat and two girls believed to be aged between the ages of three and seven were on the rear of the bakkie.
On scene paramedics had to free the driver of the Corsa bakkie by prying open the door. The man had sustained various serious injuries including multiple broken bones and a suspected head injury. The man received Advanced Life Support treatment at the scene before being rapidly transported to a nearby medical facility.
One of the girls was later airlifted to hospital by another Emergency Medical Service. The mother and the other girl also received on-scene treatment before being transported to hospital by another ambulance service.
Local law enforcement officials attended the scene and will be investigating the cause of the collision further.
