Two killed in Roodepoort accident

[Roodepoort, GP 29 June 2012 13:00]

An 18 wheeler truck has crashed into and completely driven over a light motor vehicle in Roodepoort at the intersection of Joseph Lister and 14th Avenue.

The truck carrying a heavy load of wood was driving from the top of William Nicol from Ontdekkers side, down a steep and windy downhill, when it collided with what appears to have been a VW Polo. The Polo was pulled underneath the truck and completely crushed.

The truck then veered off the road almost into the parking lot of a nearby shopping center. The two young men traveling in the car at the time appear to have been ejected as the car was flung around underneath the truck. Their badly injured remains were found lying underneath the truck and there was absolutely nothing more paramedics could do for them. The two men both appearing to be in their late 20’s were sadly declared dead on scene.

One of the occupants of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital for further care as he appeared to have sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The police will be investigating who was at fault in the cause of the accident.
