[SECUNDA, MP – 02 AUGUST 2012 AT 13H00]
Two people have lost their lives after an alleged head on collision involving two light motor vehicles on the Matla and Delmus Road in Secunda this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics from Secunda arrived on the scene and found one of the vehicles was engulfed in flames. The local Fire Department were also on scene and were extinguishing the flames but were unsure if anybody was still inside the vehicle. The second vehicle was still on the road and had extensive damage to the front with the driver still entrapped in the vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was assessed but had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. When the flames were extinguished in the burnt out vehicle, emergency personnel found the remains of the driver who was burnt beyond recognition.
It is believed that this accident may have been caused by poor visibility due to thick smoke from fires on either side of the road.
The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
