Bus Driver Dies After Accident In Cape Town

[CAPE TOWN, WC – 03 AUGUST 2012 AT 09H30]

A bus driver has died and five other people have sustained various injuries after a bus left Mew Way near to the N2 and went through some informal dwellings before coming to a halt into a house this evening.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found a bus had gone off the road just a few meters from the road. A light motor vehicle was found stationary near to the accident scene with damage to the side of the vehicle. Emergency personnel expecting the worse assessed the scene and found that there was no one on the bus at the time of the accident expect for the driver, who unfortunately had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene.

Five people including a child from the informal dwellings were assessed and found that two people were in a critical condition and three others had sustained serious injuries. They were treated and stabilised on scene by ER24 and the Western Cape Department of Health Emergency Care and were transported to various provincial hospitals for further medical care.

Western Cape Department OF Health Metro Rescue and the local Fire Department made sure the scene was safe for emergency personnel to work and help set up rescue operations to assist the medical team when they were treating patients.

The cause of the accident will be investigated by the local law enforcement agencies.
