Hot water bath scalds toddler in Sebokeng

[Sebokeng, GP 13 August 2012 15:00]

A three year old little boy’s arms, legs, and patches of his tummy and back have been burned red and blistering after he climbed into the boiling hot water of a bath this afternoon. The accident took place at a home in Zone 1 in Sebokeng in the Vaal Triangle.

The boy had some how managed unawares to anyone in the house, to climb into the bath water before it had managed to cool after it was run, and the little boy’s aunt heard his cries and went to his aid. She saw the boy’s blistered and sore body and immediately called for an ambulance.

Paramedics who arrived on scene made the decision to get the toddler to hospital as quickly as possible; and to a hospital which would specialise in the treatment of children. AER24 was called in to airlift the boy to Garden City Hospital in Brixton, where he would be under the care of a specialist child doctor.

The child was given the appropriate pain medication for his flight, as well as all of his burn wounds wrapped up in the cooling aid Burnshield. He was then taken to Garden City Hospital in a stable but serious condition.
