[Randburg, GP 30 August 2012 15:00]
The driver of a Toyota Corolla suddenly lost control of the vehicle and it crashed with heavy impact into a lamp post, and at almost the exact same time hit a pedestrian. The collision took place on Braam Fisher Drive in Randburg, at the intersection with George Avenue.
The pedestrian was flung over a fence and onto a flyby at a shopping center almost two meters down. The man in his late 20’s had suffered what appeared to have been broken bones in his hips and he was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital by ambulance for further care. He was alert and speaking to the paramedics, and was handed over to hospital staff in a stable condition.
All of the impact from the collision with the lamp post had been on the passenger door of the Corolla. The young woman sitting in the passenger seat had managed to climb out despite the extensive damage to the body of the vehicle, and she would require further assessment in hospital as to the injuries that she may have sustained. She was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and he did not require further treatment in hospital.
