A single vehicle accident took place on the N2 at Woodstock, leaving a man in his 30’s with a severely broken leg.
The man had been lucky that witnesses to the accident had stopped so quickly to assist, where they had apparently noted that the vehicle had caught alight. As smoke billowed from the engine bay, they pulled the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, out of the wreckage to safety.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the Hyundai i20 lying on its side up against a tree at the side of the road, engulfed in flames.
The patient had suffered a badly broken left leg, but was otherwise in a stable condition thanks to the reaction from the bystanders. He was treated on scene before being taken to Mediclinic Cape Town for further care.
No other vehicles had been involved in the accident and the cause offs still being determined by investigators.
