[Boksburg, GP – 23 September 2012 at 00h30]
An alleged head on collision on North Rand and Bartlett Road in Boksburg North involving a VW Golf and Bakkie has left a passenger dead and the driver in a critical condition.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the two vehicles in the intersection. The driver and passenger of the Golf were still inside the vehicle and entrapped. Paramedics assessed them and found the passenger had already succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The driver was in a critical condition and needed Advanced Life Support intervention to help stabilise him further. The Boksburg North Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other rescue equipment to extricate the driver from the vehicle before they extricated the deceased. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
The occupants of the other vehicle where not on the scene when emergency personnel arrived. The authorities will investigate the accident further.
