A 31 year old worker sustained serious injuries this afternoon following an incident at a collage in Somerset West where sheets of roofing fell on top of him.
The events leading up to the incident is unclear, but according to witnesses the workers were off loading the sheets from a vehicle when it fell on the one man, injuring his back. ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene to find the man in severe pain.
Due the injuries sustained and the distance to the nearest appropriate medical facilities, on scene paramedics promptly dispatched the AER24 helicopter to the scene.
The patient then received treatment at the scene for a suspected back injury before being airlifted to Mediclinic Vergelegen for further treatment. The incident will be investigated by the appropriate authority.
