Two accidents occur on the same stretch of road just hours apart

On Saturday night October 6, 2012 a pedestrian was hit by a bus on the N1 North near the Olifantsfontein off-ramp in Midrand.

It is alleged that the pedestrian ran out into the oncoming lane of the highway directly in front of a bus, the driver swerved to avoid him, but it was in vain.
EMER-G-MED paramedics raced to scene, to find the pedestrian had died on impact due to the severity of his injuries and there was nothing they could do to save him. None of the occupants in the bus sustained any injuries.

Traffic was heavily backed us as the victim’s body was in the middle of the highway. EMS personal from other services and law enforcement officials were also in attendance and helped secure the accident scene and safely direct traffic.

Hours later EMER-G-MED paramedics responded a motor vehicle accident just a few hundred meters from the first accident scene, which had not yet been cleared as pathologists needed to conduct their investigation.

It is alleged that one vehicle slowed down as he approached the accident scene resulting in another vehicle crashing into the back of him. The two occupants in the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported by EMER-G-MED to a Carstenhof Hospital for further treatment required.

The driver of the second vehicle hit his head into the windscreen as a result of not wearing his seatbelt; he was out of the vehicle and walking around at the scene. He had sustained cuts and abrasions to his face and head, paramedics advised him to go to hospital due to the high impact of the collision. He was transported to Sandton Clinic by EMER-G-MED.

Once again traffic was affected and both accident scenes needed to be secured.
