An elderly Pretoria holiday maker has drowned on an Amanzimtoti beach this afternoon. Reports from his wife indicate that they were sitting on the sand watching the waves, a freak wave appeared and swept both people into the sea. She recalls him saying “ just crawl out “ when a second wave pulled them back into the water. She managed to crawl on her hands and knees to safety, but her elderly husband collapsed.
When the Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene they found that the life guards had pulled the man onto the beach. After assessing the patient they found that he tragically died before their arrival.
Sap Amanzimtoti was on scene and will be conducting an investigation.
