[NEW GERMANY, KZN – 21 OCTOBER 2012 AT 03H50]
One person has lost her life and two other females have sustained moderate injuries after the car they were traveling in veered off and rolled into a river by Blair Atholl and Nipper Road in New Germany in the early parts of this morning.
ER24 and the Provincial Ambulance Service arrived on the scene and found a single vehicle which was later made out to be a Mazda 3 lying on its side in the river. One patient was found half in the water but she had already succumbed to her injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The two other patients, the driver and passenger both females were already out of the vehicle. They were treated for suspected neck and back injuries, cuts and abrasions and for hypothermia. They were stabilised on scene and were transported to Life Entabeni Hospital for further medical care.
The circumstances around the accident are not clear but it’s believed that the driver lost control of the car due to poor visibility and wet weather conditions but the local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
