[JOHANNESBURG, GP, 25 OCTOBER 2012 AT 13H00]
One person is in a serious condition and another person has sustained moderate injuries after a collision between a Hyundai Bakkie and a truck occurred on the R50 between Delmas and Bapsfontein this afternoon.
ER24 paramedics from Johannesburg east arrived and found the two vehicles some distances away from one another but with extensive damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Hyundai bakkie believed to be in his mid-twenties was found a few meters away from the vehicle. It is believed he was ejected during the collision.
The paramedics assessed him and found he was in a serious condition. He had suffered a traumatic injury to his right hand and he was also treated for a suspected neck and back injury and a broken arm. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The patient was airlifted to Union Hospital by AER24 for rapid medical care.
The driver of the truck had sustained moderate injuries and was taken by road to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
