The young boy was found to have tired himself out and was almost seen to be floating on top of the water when bystanders quickly pulled him out, calling paramedics to assist.
The boy appeared to be around the age of 10 years old, although at this stage his exact age remains unknown, but he went into the tidal pools at Camps Bay, when it seems that he was not able to keep himself going completely underwater, and he presumably started to panic. Shortly before he stopped fighting to stay afloat, bystanders noticed him flailing in the water and they rushed to his aid. By then it appeared that he had exhausted himself and he was face down in the water. The bystanders pulled him out and once paramedics arrived on scene they started treating the boy. He was in severe respiratory distress, and AER24 was called to the scene.
The flight paramedics immediately took over the child’s care and airlifted him to the Red Cross Childrens Hospital. Upon their arrival the child’s condition had stabilised somewhat and the staff at the hospital took over his care. He remains under observation in hospital.
