[Witpoortjie, GP 28 October 2012 04:30]
At around 04:30, a serious head on collision took place on Progress Road in Witpoortjie, leaving five people with various injuries.
A VW Polo and an Opel Corsa collided head on, but the cause of the accident is still to be investigated by local authorities. Both front ends of the vehicle had been ripped apart, where pieces of the vehicles were strewn across the road surface.
A woman was found lying outside the vehicle and it is believed that she had been the front passenger of the Polo and was ejected upon impact. She was in a critical condition and her care was quickly taken over by paramedics and she was taken to hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Polo was found to be still in his seat and he too had suffered extensive injuries. The two rear passengers, also a man and a woman, were treated for moderate injuries only.
The driver of the Corsa had been the only occupant of the vehicle and he had come out of the accident with moderate injuries only. All five patients received the appropriate treatment on scene according to the injuries that they had sustained and were rapidly transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for further care.
