Two men are in a critical condition and a third man is in a serious condition after sustaining burns to their bodies after a transformer exploded while working on it at the Rietfontein Dam Power station in Secunda this morning.
ER24 paramedics rushed off to the scene and were shown where the patients where. The paramedics assessed the three men who are believed to be in their early forties and found that the two men had sustained 80% burns and needed Advanced Life Support intervention. The third patient had sustained serious burns to his body. All three patients were transported to Mediclinic Highveld for rapid medical care.
The circumstances around the incident will have to be investigate by the local authorities. It is believed that the men were burnt from the flash of the explosion.
