Fatal injury in scrap metal incident in Kimberley

[Kimberley, NC 20 March 2013]

A group of men were allegedly collecting scrap metal at a yard approximately 5 kilometers outside of Kimberley off the N12, when one of the chains was cut through and the heavy load of metal fell onto one of the men.

The 35 year old was pinned underneath the weight of the metal an his colleagues tried to free him. When they managed to remove the metal from on top of his body, it was already too late and he had died due to extensive and traumatic injuries. Paramedics arrived on scene and declared the lifeless remains of the man deceased.

It is believed that the metal was being held up on by a crane and while they were cutting the metal came loose and that’s when it fell onto the man.

The local police are still investigating the incident.
