A young man has sustained extensive and critical injuries after he came off his motorbike on Main Reef Road in Witpoortjie this afternoon. Although details from treating paramedics are that the bike collided into a pole, the exact details of the cause of the accident remain to be investigated.
Immediate initiation of Advanced Life Support paramedics was needed upon first arrival at the scene. The 22 year old man was in a critical condition, having sustained a head injury and broken bones. AER24 medical helicopter was called to the scene to assist with rapid transport of the patient to hospital and while the crews stabilized the young man on scene the aircraft found a suitable spot to land.
The patient was packaged into the helicopter and airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further care.
